Larn Lab: Healthful Groceries

For the last Larn Lab activity for the 2023-24 school year, PreK students were shown how to continue eating the fruits and vegetables during the summer. Many students were introduced to new fruits and vegetables they'd never tried and wanted to know how to identify the produce to their parents and guardians.

Griselda Quezada of Riverside, California’s Freemont Elementary was able work with the school nurse to teach students how to identify safe heathy foods as well as unsafe foods due to allergies. This activity consisted of carefully introducing foods through tasting and grocery toys that helped identify for the purpose of enthusiastic shopping or avoidance.

The excited students were placed in a mock grocery store with a shopping list and basket to identity items such as corn, apples, and other health grocery items. The goal was to help students to turn the next summer grocery or farmers market trip into an informative and fun experience.
