The Rural to Living Sustainably Project (RLSP)
RLSP was created to address rural area service gaps that can be presented as recommendations to state-level stakeholders. Originally starting in 2021, the switch from city living to rural required lifestyle changes that affected energy usage, social stability, and technology implementation to lower cost of living and apply home-based innovation.
Learning from Colorado Rural Living
RLSP is designed to be a research and development resource, used to improve relocation standards for city-suburban area US residents considering moving to rural areas. The data collected from this research provides realistic approach to implementing innovative sustainability and technology that help simplify persistent rural area issues. Discoveries from observational and formative data is provided to those looking to improve expenses and find solutions based on limitation that occur in remote areas. Our project primarily focuses on the needs within America’s Colorado Rural area.
Land Management
Resolutions that consist of directing weather-based needs to adjust for seasonal land review for preparedness such as snow, soil erosion, extreme rain, and wildfire prevention. In rural Colorado, varied weather anomalies are a way of life. Being educated about seasonal patterns improves safer living outcomes.
Equitable Living
Observational data showing detail of equitable challenges, benefits, or adjustments for inexperienced residents, considering living in Colorado’s rural areas. Living in rural areas present specific difficulties that may be dismissed as formidable concerns by those unaware of the challenges that occur with animals, inaccessibility, or additional expenses.
Energy Efficiency
By reviewing different energy consumption patterns and the consideration of overall usage of power, changes in appliances, smart meters, and interior design can alter a month’s budget. We observed overall wattage from household electronic devices improved monthly bills. Through strategic device use, this can create more efficiency to ensure lower costs and the most comfortable with minimal comprise.
Evolving Challenges
Data collection from these findings allow Tscion to review how various environmental education methods can contribute to a “City to Rural” ratio scale coding and an Emergency Preparedness Ratings System to review resident relocation readiness.

In 2026, Tscion is setting up the equipment needed to provide a new weather and environmental system, providing data for our rural Colorado area. Cloudes setup will allow the community to access smart technology data that provides weather-based information necessary for agriculture, emergency, and weather related alerts.
